Opportunity Type: Open Call

Spectrum and MISE-EN have teamed up to create a concert series that provides artists the freedom to experiment with music and the arts at MISE-EN_PLACE in Harlem (45 Saint Nicholas Avenue, New York, NY 10026). We welcome proposals for Winter/Spring 2026.
Spectrum’s mission is to foster innovation and virtuosity in the arts. We particularly encourage participation by those bringing the sort of challenging, through-composed, “complexitist” music sometimes easier to find in European settings (e.g., Darmstadt;
Donaueschingen Festival) than elsewhere.
Also, we are actively interested in performances for our Exile series, which celebrates performers and composers who have either lived in a state of exile or have enriched the US by moving here from other countries.
Finally, we have a specific intent to support talented musicians and artists who may have fewer resources but deserve a platform to showcase their work.
We aim to make this project as transparent as possible. Here is what we offer as a baseline:
- Revenue Split: Artists and the venue will split ticket revenue 50/50 after covering necessary production costs (e.g., box office fees, ASCAP/BMI licenses, if applicable).
- Space usage costs are fully covered by us and provided at no cost to the artists.
- We provide equipment and instruments at no cost to the artists, including speakers, amplifiers, two grand pianos, and a variety of percussion instruments such as marimba, tubular bells, timpani, xylophone, crotales, glockenspiel, and more.
- We give priority to projects that do not receive grant funding. Musicians and groups with limited resources who are undertaking self-funded projects are warmly encouraged to apply.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Eli Parrish, Assistant Manager at MISE-EN, at eli@mise-en.org. Additionally, if you know Glenn Cornett (Executive Director of Spectrum) or Moon Ha (Artistic Director of MISE-EN), you are welcome to contact them. However, all proposals must be submitted to eli@mise-en.org to ensure that they reach all reviewers.
